What do we do?
We provide services to adults who have a learning disability in the Swansea area.
We are funded by the City & County of Swansea Social Services Department.
We are non-profit making – we don’t make money.
We are run by a group of carers and others who aren’t paid; they want to provide good services to people in Swansea. They are our Committee.
We help people live in their own homes and offer help with such things as:
- Shopping
- Sorting out money
- Sorting out letters
- Help with tablets
- Helping us improve their skills
- Attend health appointments
- Help people attend day services
Our staff regularly go on courses to make sure they can help you in the best way they can.
We also provide skills assessment services to see if there are things people need help or training with.
We provide a getting-to-know-you service and this helps people prepare for living with new people in new places.
We provide support that Swansea Social Services fund and agree meet their Eligibility Criteria. The Eligibility Criteria means the things they tell us we should or should not provide.
How do you have help from us?
Speak to your Care Manager, your Community Nurse or your Social Worker. If they agree you need help from us, they will arrange a meeting so we can all agree the best way to assist you.
Do we charge?
We don’t, but your Care Manager, Social Worker or Community Nurse will see if you need to pay. They will check your savings and benefits and the Care Manager will sort out any payments. You may be asked to sign a time sheet by your support worker to confirm the times you have been supported.
If you can afford to pay we ask for £3 per session for our Assessment Services to help pay for shopping, entrance fees and meals out. Your Support Worker will collect this and give you a receipt.
When could your service stop?
We will agree with you and your Care Manager how we can help you. Your service with us may stop if:
- Any agreements are completed
- If you need more help than we can offer
- Should you ask for a change in the Provider
- If your Care Manager tells us things need to change
- If we have any worries regarding you or your support worker’s safety
If you would like to stop or tell us something about the help we give you, please tell your Support Worker, Care Manager or ring us and we can decide together what to do next.
Your Support Worker may ask you to sign a time sheet or a charging form if you need to pay for your help. We will tell you if you need to do this.
You may need to stop your support for a time if you are on holiday or ill. If this is the case, you must tell your support worker or ring us as soon as you can.
