What is Doorways?
Doorways is a voluntary organisation set up by a group of parents and other people interested in the future provision of accommodation for people with a learning disability.
It is managed by an elected committee drawn from its membership and with representation from the staff team and Social Services. They meet on a monthly basis and in liaison with the staff, they discuss the development of the service, monitor finance, participate in staff selection and organise fund raising activities. Doorways is funded by Social Services enabling the organisation to rent an ordinary house in the community which is provided by Gwalia Housing Group.
Our Philosophy
Doorways supports wholeheartedly the principles of the All Wales Strategy which states that people with a learning disability have:
-
A right to be treated as individuals;
-
A right to ordinary patterns of life in the community
-
A right to individual help from the community in which they live and from professional services in order to develop their maximum potential
Services We Offer
Since 1988 Doorways, in partnership with Social Services has:
-
Established and maintained a 'Getting-to-Know-You' scheme whose primary aim is to prepare people for changes in their lifestyles and accommodation;
-
Continued to offer flexible support to individuals with complex needs and also provides a range of activities including assessments of compatibility, support needs and future day service requirements.

Future Development
